Procedures and Tests
Professor Kempny leads the adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension intervention programme at Royal Brompton Hospital and performs the following procedures in adults and adolescents:
- Echocardiography, including transthoracic and transesophageal
- Holter ECG and Holter blood pressure assessment
- Patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure
- Atrial septal defect (ASD) closure
- Sinus venosus atrial septal defect (SVASD)
- VSD, PDA closure and CoA stenting
- Percutaneous valve implantation, including Edwards-Sapien valves, large prosthesis (MyVal, Venus Pvalve) and Melody valve
- Percutaneous valve in valve implantation
- Balloon valvuloplasty
- Paravalvular leak closure
- Closure of vascular malformations
- Coronary angiography and cardiac catheterisation
- 3D reconstructions and 3D printing for advanced planning of percutaneous procedures
and in collaboration with diagnostic centres:
- Computed tomography (CT)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Exercise testing
- Lung function testing- spirometry, gas transfer, lung volumes and end capillary blood gases
- Sleep studies
- Positron emission tomography - computed tomography (PET-CT )
